Jadeja adds to his SENA tally –
Ravindra Jadeja came in when India had lost Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. All he had was an erratic Rishabh Pant with him. But that did not matter to him. While Pant went on the offensive, Jadeja played his own game.
There was no rush from Jadeja like his strike partner Pant. He took the balls on their merit and smashed them when needed. The rest of the time, he left the balls alone and kept rotating strike.
With Pant scoring at over 130, Jadeja could have been tempted to up the ante. But he understood his role pretty well. He anchored from one end, scoring his 18th Test half-century.

Interestingly it was his sixth fifty in the SENA nations and showed why he has been preferred over R Ashwin. Jadeja has enjoyed playing in the English conditions in the past and this was no exception. His terrific knock helped India recover and end the day at 338/7.

Better option than Ashwin in SENA nations?-
In comparison to Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja has a better batting tally than Ashwin in SENA nations. While Jadeja has six fifties, Ashwin has only two fifties on the turf of SENA nations. Although Ashwin has 442 wickets in Test cricket, exactly 200 more than Jadeja’s tally, it is the batting ability of Ravindra Jadeja that makes him a better-equipped player than the Chennai-born off-spinner.

Fourth 50 on English soil-
- While Jadeja was the fulcrum of the Indian recovery with Rishabh Pant, he once again enjoyed his time on English soil.
- It was Jadeja’s fourth Test fifty on English soil, with first coming in 2014 at the iconic Lord’s.
- Since 2014, he has added to his tally in 2018 at the Oval and also scored a fifty last year at Trent Bridge.
- Jadeja’s latest fifty justifies his selection in the Indian side when there were calls of him being a possible omission.
On the horizon Jadeja’s fifty also helped India recover very well with him and Rishabh Pant adding a 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
