Traveling to the Edgbaston ground in Birmingham with his fellow teammates, Gill has been spotted in a happy and relaxed mood. The Indian opener was seen sharing a laugh, chatting, and listening to songs with his friends.

India currently leads 2-1 in the test series and will face a tough challenge from the English side in his rescheduled test game. The Indian squad is well prepared to take up the English challenge, but with skipper Rohit Sharma likely to be out of the game, Shubman Gill will partner Mayank Agarwal to open the Indian innings.
The India vs England 5th test in Edgbaston is going to be the biggest challenge in the young career of the 22-year-old batter. Having made his test debut in December of 2020 against Australia, this will be the first time that a huge responsibility falls on Gill’s shoulders. With Rohit Sharma missing the action and backup opener Mayank Agarwal in a relatively poor form off late, Gill will be entrusted with laying the foundation of the Indian innings.

- Shubman Gill is likely to open the Indian innings with Mayank Agarwal.
- The young opener got plenty of batting practice in the 4-day warmup match against Leicestershire.
- Gill batted thrice and scored 21, 38 and 62 on three occasions.
- With Rohit Sharma likely missing the game, Gill will be under pressure to score big runs for India.
- This will be Gill’s first test match in 2022. He last played a test match in December of 2021 against New Zealand in Mumbai where he partnered with Rohit Sharma as the opening pair. He scored 44 and 47 on his last test for India.

In the 4-day warmup match against Leicestershire, Gill got his much-needed batting practice where he went out to the crease a total of three times. In India’s first innings he scored a quick 21-run knock and 38 off 34 in India’s second innings. He once again came to bat in Leicestershire’s 2nd innings and went on to score a gritty 62.
Gill is yet to score a century in Test cricket and will be looking to achieve the milestone soon. This test would be Gill’s first test match in the 2022 calendar year. He was last featured in a test match last December in Mumbai when India took on New Zealand. In both the innings, Gill scored healthy knocks of 44 and 47.
