Ind vs Eng 2nd test: Mumbai Indians (MI) celebrate Rohit Sharma 150

Ind vs Eng 2nd test: Mumbai Indians (MI) celebrate Rohit Sharma 150 – Rohit Sharma who was struggling to get some runs under his belt in his last few outings gave a befitting reply with his bat by scoring a hundred in the first innings of the 2nd Test Match between India and England. He had a poor run in the recently concluded test series against the Australia and in the first test match against England. Some speculations were going around his ousting from the playing XI of the 2nd test match. When the question was asked to Rahane in a press conference about the removal of the Hitman from the playing XI, Rahane showered confidence in the opener and said “he’s an important player and can’t be judged on the basis of 4-5 innings. Rohit Sharma is an important member of our team. He made important contributions in Australia. You can’t judge a player over 4-6 innings. You need to have faith in the players. We’re really happy to have Rohit in the team,” And, Rohit proved the management’s decision to be a fruitful one.

Rohit Sharma silenced his critics on Saturday after scoring his seventh Test century in the second Test against England at MA Chidambaram Stadium. He now has the second-best Test batting average at home (minimum 1000 runs) of 84.94, behind Don Bradman who has a 98.22 average. George Headley is third on the list with 77.56 average.

India won the toss and elected to bat first. And after Olly Stone dismissed Shubman Gill for a duck, it was all on Sharma to give his team a strong start. And the right-handed batsman did not disappoint.

The Indian opener, did well in 2019 when he was promoted up in the batting order to open in Visakhapatnam against South Africa. He scored 176, 127, 14, 212, 6 and 21 for a total of 556 runs at an average of 92.66.

However, he struggled with the bat ever since suffering from a hamstring injury during IPL 2020. He came under scanner after a string of bad performances. He has made 26, 52, 44, 7, 6, and 12 for a total of 147 at an average of 24.50.
