India vs England 1st Test – Nasser Hussain, David Lloyd, Gautam Gambhir predicts the winner: Former England captain Nasser Hussain has predicted that India are a sure shot best to win the test series against the England side. In an write-up for Daily Mail Hussain declared though the England side is on upward curve has an ability to surprise, still they will start as underdogs in the series.
“India are favourites and I’d go for them winning 2-1 but this England side can surprise you and they’re on an upward curve”, said Hussain while making his prediction for the series.
Former England international and renowned cricket pundit David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd meanwhile has predicted complete whitewash by India in the series. According to Lloyd, India will either win 3-0 or 4-0.
“I think India will win hands down, maybe 3-0 or 4-0, but I’d love to be proved wrong. India are raging favourites but it will be good for England to be underdogs. It will help them to have had two matches in Sri Lanka in what you’d think will be similar conditions. If I’m putting my two bob anywhere it’s on India”, declared Lloyd.
When asked why India is strong favorite to win the series – Hussain and Lloyd has following to say about the current Indian team.
“They are very strong but Ravindra Jadeja’s injury is a massive blow. We saw England struggle against left-arm spin in Sri Lanka and Jadeja plays his IPL cricket in Chennai and knows the ground well. Without him their balance is an area England could exploit – but overall India is very strong in each and every department”, Hussain told Daily Mail.
“India are the best in the world as they showed in beating Australia almost without the captain. They’ve got a balanced team and wonderful batsmen. Nasser says they will miss Jadeja but Axar Patel is a very good bowler if they go the way of spin”, declared Lloyd.
India vs England Test Series: Gautam Gambhir also predicts, ‘England can’t win a match against India’
India vs England Test Series – Gautam Gambhir’s Prediction: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has declared that England can’t win a single test against India in the 4 match test series. India vs England 1st Test starts on 5th Feb and Gambhir feels, England does not have required spin attack to beat India in the test series.
“I don’t see England winning any of the Test matches with the kind of spin attack they’ve got”, 39-year-old Gambhir was quoted as saying in Star Sports show Game Plan’.
England have named the likes of Moeen Ali, Dom Bess and Jack Leach as spinners in their squad. While Ali is an experienced campaigner with 181 wickets from 60 Tests, Bess and Leach have played 12 Tests each, taking 31 and 44 wickets respectively.
“It has to be 3-0 India or probably 3-1. I’m only going to give a Pink Ball Test match, probably 50-50 to England just from the conditions point of view.”
India vs England 1st Test: Gambhir also says India will be a completely different challenge for Joe Root
Gambhir said England skipper Joe Root, who had done well in Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series which his side won 2-0, will find a completely different challenge in India. “This is going to be a completely different challenge for someone like Joe Root,” Gambhir said.
