IND vs BAN ODI: Litton Das elevated to captaincy after Tamim Iqbal injury, Test Captain Shakib Al Hasan rejects leadership role – Check OUT
The BCB on Friday confirmed Liton Das’ elevation as captain for the upcoming series against India. The change in leadership comes after Tamim Iqbal’s injury. Das, who is already the vice-captain in Tests will make his ODI captaincy debut in Dhaka on Sunday.
The 28-year-old is one of the pillars of the Bangladesh outfit across all formats of the game. Meanwhile, it is learned that Shakib Al Hasan declined. Litton serves as Shakib’s deputy in Tests and was then named skipper. He previously led Bangladesh in a T20I last year when Mahmudullah was injured.

“Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well,” Jalal Yunus, BCB cricket operation chairman said in the media release.
Earlier, Tamim Iqbal was ruled out with injury. The regular skipper suffered a groin injury during a practice match on November 30. His participation in the test series also remains a doubt.
“It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim to injury for this very important series, especially because under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format. He will be missed but we also feel that Liton has the attributes to do a good job as captain,” Yunus added.
