IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli notched up his 65th half-century in ODI cricket on Wednesday. The former Indian captain led India’s charge in chase of 270 in the third ODI against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 22nd March 2023. However the former skipper was dismissed after scoring 54 off 72 balls. Kohli’s dismissal has left India in a spot of bother. The hosts have lost five wickets. The openers gave India a good start as 65 runs were scored within the 10th over. Skipper Rohit however departed after scoring 30 off 17 balls. Following Rohit’s dismissal, Virat Kohli came into bat. He started off slowly and took time to settle in the middle. His partner Shubman Gill soon walked back to the pavilion as India were 77/2.
Kohli then joined hands with KL Rahul as the duo steered the chase. It was only after he faced 20 balls in the innings, Kohli managed to score his first boundary. He pulled Ashton Agar over midwicket. Within two balls, he played a delighful inside-out shot that sailed over long-off for a six.
However boundaries were hard to come by. Kohli focused on rotating the strike along with his partner Rahul. The duo brought up their 50 run stand in the 25th over. Soon after that Kohli decided to play the anchor role as Rahul started finding boundaries from the other end.
However two back-to-back wickets pushed India to the backseat. Kohli maintained his calm from the other end and brought up his half-century off 61 balls. While a big knock from the 35-year old was expected. He disappointed by dismissing for just 54 off 72 balls. He tried to go for a big shot only to end up giving a simple catch to David Warner at long-off.
Not only a series win is at stake for the Men in Blue, but the World number ODI rankings too is in the spot of bother. If India loses the Chennai ODI, then Australia will dethrone them from the top spot.
