India’s legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has 417 wickets to his name in the longest format, took to Twitter and appealed to save Test cricket. Harbhajan said, “India vs Australia is the biggest test series I think. But sadly pitches make more noise than test Cricket. Save Test Cricket.”

The commencement of the four-match Test series is getting all the attention. Both teams appear well-prepared to give each other a tough battle on the field. Meanwhile, according to some media reports, in order to have a surface advantage over the Australian in the first Test, India has been prepping the Nagpur pitch in various ways.

Earlier, Australian media alleged India of ‘doctoring’ the Nagpur pitch. Reacting to it, former New Zealand bowler Mitchell McClenaghan said that the claim made by the Australian media is correct. Meanwhile, some former Australian cricketers have also made the same allegation about India.
However, on the eve of the first Test, when Indian captain Rohit Sharma was asked about the pitch being ‘doctored’, he said that the focus needs to be on the match and not the pitch. “Just focus on cricket and not the pitch. After all the 22 guys out there are all quality players,” said Rohit.
A Test series in India and the talks around the pitch have taken precedence over cricket once again, for unknown reasons. With the surface set to be dry, spinners will understandably get help, but how do batters play them, only time will tell.
