Speaking about the delivery, Handscomb was looking set for his 17 as he played down the wrong line which costed him his wicket. The ball moved a tad after pitching as it took Handcomb’s off-stump with it. The batter looked very frustrated as he trudged back to the pavilion.
Meanwhile, Shami finished his spell on Day 1 after bowling 17 overs. He took two crucial wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Handscomb and gave away 65 runs in his 17 overs. Meanwhile, the visitors are in a strong position as they finished the day on 255/4. Opener Usman Khawaja was excellent with the bat as he completed a well-compiled century. He remained unbeaten for his 104 off 251 balls.
In terms of the World Test Championship, the game is crucial, and if India win, they will join Australia in the final, which is set to take place at The Oval in June. Even a loss won’t ruin India’s prospects of qualifying, but much will depend on the result of the Test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, which also begins on Thursday. Australia, on the other side, will try to maintain their winning streak and wrap out the series evenly. In the four-match series, the hosts currently have a 2-1 lead.
