And taking full advantage of their survival, both the batters hammered their opponents and went on to score big runs.

Rahane survived late in Day 2 and Shardul was saved by a whisker early on Day 3. The duo batter built up a solid partnership to save India from the blushes and crumbling down early against their mighty opponent in the all important WTC Finals.

As for Pat Cummins it continues to be a worry. Both the batters took the golden lifeline and went on to score big runs. Rahane and Shardul Thakur batted brilliantly as each of the duo registered their respective fifties.

For Rahane, the man who was dropped from Test cricket comeback strongly on his Test return as he slammed a gritty 89-run knock. Shardul Thakur on the other hand, fought well as he registered his third consecutive fifty at the Oval.
