Ind vs Aus: 4 Indian players who did the unthinkable in India vs Australia series

Ind vs Aus: Besides the T20 trophy and probably the Border-Gavaskar trophy, if there is anything India will take away from the series against Australia, it is the rich pool of Test players for the future. In the injury-hit series, the visitors have found some real heroes and interestingly they are the youngsters of the team who have stepped up in the absence of Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma amongst others.
Here are four Indian players who were standout and did the unthinkable for the team
— T Natarajan
If there is anyone who has impressed the Indian selectors and fans alike, it is Natarajan. Originally part of the T20 squad, he was given his ODI debut due to multiple injuries. And he made the most of his 50-over debut. He took three wickets. It was followed by T20 debut and despite the Man of the Series awarded the Hardik Pandya, Natarajan’s performance was acknowledged by everyone. His good form in Test continued as he took three wickets with the red-ball.
— Mohammed Siraj
It was a nervous start for Siraj but with each ball, the Andhra-boy matured. Cut forward to the Brisbane Test, he was the spearhead of India’s pace battery. And his performance on the fourth day, where he took his maiden Test five-wicket haul will be the highlight of his Australian tour.
— Shardul Thakur
Brought in the team as a replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah, Thakur donned the all-rounder shirt instead and did it perfectly. His Viv Richard-like cover drives and a six to score his half-century kept India’s hopes to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy alive. He was even influential with the ball. The 29-year-old has taken nine wickets in the fourth Test.
— Washinton Sundar
If Shardul Thakur was “heads” of the coin for India, Sundar was “tails” for them. Hitting maiden fifty on Test debut, followed by four wickets is like a fairytale for the youngster. Sundar and Thakur also broke India’s seventh-wicket stand by stitching a 123-run partnership.
