Ind vs Aus 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli becomes the new bunny of Josh Hazlewood

India vs Australia 3rd ODI – Kohli vs Hazlewood: Even though Virat Kohli has been termed as Adam Zampa’s bunny, but it’s the Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood who got the better of the Team India skipper in all the games of the three-match ODI series and dismissed Kohli thrice.

Overall, Hazlewood has dismissed Kohli for the fourth consecutive time in ODIs this year. In both the ODIs in Sydney, the 29-year-old had gotten him and the Canberra ODI was no different as yet again Kohli was undone by a peach of a delivery from Hazlewood on Wednesday.

Notably, this was the fourth consecutive time that Hazlewood sent Kohli back to the pavilion in ODIs this year as the Australian had gotten him out in Bangalore in 2020 as well when Australia toured India.

Trent Boult, Junaid Khan and Jhye Richardson are the other bowlers who have dismissed Kohli three consecutive times.

India vs Australia 3rd ODI: Kohli bags unwanted record

For the first time since 2008, Virat Kohli did not score an ODI century in a calendar year.
In his debut in 2008, Kohli smashed 54 and that was the only fifty he hit in that entire year as he finished with an average of 31.8. However, in 11 years, the Delhi batsman managed at least one century with his best being in 2017 and 2018 in which he hit six centuries and averaged 76 and 133.

But, with Kohli being dismissed on 63 on Wednesday in the final ODI of the series against Australia, the Indian skipper failed to keep the century-streak going.

  • 2008: 0 (Five innings)

  • 2010: 3 (24)
  • 2011: 4 (34)
  • 2012: 5 (17)
  • 2013: 4 (30)
  • 2014: 4 (20)
  • 2015: 2 (20)
  • 2016: 3 (10)
  • 2017: 6 (26)
  • 2018: 6 (14)
  • 2019: 5 (25)

Also, this sees Kohli end with a highest individual score of 89 this calendar year. He reached the 89-run mark twice this year and both times against Australia — once in the second ODI on Sunday and earlier in Bengaluru in January.

However, it must be noted that Kohli was a part of only 9 ODI matches this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Before this Australia tour, the last ODI that India had played came in February during their tour of New Zealand.
