Ind vs Aus 1st T20 – 3 Big Questions in front of Virat Kohli & Ravi Shastri: After suffering a defeat in the three-match ODI series, Team India will now take on Australia in a three-match T20 series starting Friday (December 4) and Virat Kohli and co. will eye revenge when they lock horns with the hosts in the shortest format.
However, Team India management, coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Kolhi face three big questions ahead of the first T20I on Friday.
India vs Australia 1st T20I: Who will open with Shikhar Dhawan? KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal?
This same question was put in front of Team India management in the ODI series and they decided to partner Dhawan with Mayank Agarwal and played KL Rahul as no. 5 batsman.
However, in the T20 format, it will be a much difficult call, given that Rahul won’t get much time to settle while coming out to bat as late as fourth down and he will have to start hitting from the word go, which is not his natural game
Moreover, it’s no secret that Rahul loves batting at the top of the order which was once again proved in IPL 2020 where he managed to win Orange Cap batting as opener for Kings XI Punjab. Hence, India will be reluctant to play KL as a middle-order batsman in the T20I series.
Also, playing KL Rahul as an opener will open the gates for natural no. 5 batsman – Manish Pandey, who can fire quick runs down the order and doesn’t need much time to settle.
Talking about Mayank Agarwal, then the 29-year-old batsman was average with his performance in the recently concluded ODI series and he managed to score only 50 runs in two games before being dropped for the final ODI. If Rahul plays as an opener then it will be the end of road for his KXIP teammate Agarwal.
India vs Australia 1st T20I: Is Mohammed Shami fit to play?
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami reportedly suffered a niggle in the second ODI against Australia and as per Cricbuzz reporter Bharat Sundaresan, who is covering the tour in Australia, the Indian physio came out twice to have a chat with the pacer near the boundary line. Moreover, Shami was off the field for six overs during the match and was rested for the third ODI, which have raised concerns over his fitness.
However, there’s no official statement on Shami’s availability or injury by the BCCI and the pacer might have been rested just as a precautionary measure. So, the fans will have to wait till Friday to get the clear picture.
India vs Australia 1st T20I: Can India include Kuldeep Yadav in T20 squad?
Kuldeep, who replaced Yuzvendra Chahal in the third ODI, bowled well in Canberra to help India contain the Australian batsmen. The left-arm wrist-spinner gave away 57 runs in his 10-over quota and also picked up the wicket of Cameron Green at an important stage of the game.
Due to his good performance, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has backed Kuldeep to play in three-match T20I series even though he is not part of the squad.
“Kuldeep showed good rhythm. He bowled after long time. I think at least for the first T20 International, he can be tried out and see how it goes,” Gavaskar told India Today channel on Wednesday.
However, it is unlikely that Team India management will make any changes in the T20 squad, thus, the only option they are left with, is to play Chahal as their main spinner despite the fact that he produced an abysmal performance in the ODI series – leaking 89 runs and 79 runs in the opening two ODIs in Syndey respectively. The leggie managed to pick just a wicket in the ODI series.
