ICC WTC Final: 'Hardik Pandya won't be considered for Test cricket,' BCCI's big revelation after dropping him from Test squad vs NZ, England

ICC WTC Final Squad – Half Fit Hardik Pandya won’t be considered for test cricket confirms BCCI Sources: As the BCCI announced the India squad on Friday evening for the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand and 5-match Test series against England, there were not many surprises apart from the omission of Hardik Pandya. The injury-prone all-rounder was not considered for Virat Kohli’s Team India in the red-ball squad and as per BCCI sources, he will not have a place until he returns to full-fledged bowling action. Hardik did not bowl for Mumbai Indians in the now-suspended IPL 2021 either.

“Hardik Pandya is still not in a position to bowl. The experiment of selectors to keep him during England Tests and prepare him with bowling workload has failed miserably. He will henceforth not be considered for Test cricket,” a BCCI source told PTI.

ICC WTC Final: Is this end of the road for Hardik Pandya’s Test career?

Hardik Pandya last played a Test for India in the last tour of England in 2018 and since then he has been overlooked for the Test side as recurring injuries and workload management have forced him out of the squad. While he did feature in the ODI series against England at home, he played as a batter and not as an all-rounder, bowling only nine overs in the entire 3-match series. Only in the 5-match T20I series that he bowled. In the now suspended IPL 2021, he did not bowl either and he missed the mark with the bat, scoring only 52 runs in six innings.

“It doesn’t seem he is being able to sustain the load of bowling. He recovered from a back surgery, changed his action but now it’s his shoulder that is bothering him,” a BCCI source told TOI.

While Hardik Pandya was named in the Test squad for England series, he did not play. As per the BCCI source, the all-rounder is now focusing on his batting and with the T20 World Cup coming in October, the BCCI does not want to risk him with Test’s bowling workload.

“Even Hardik Pandya realizes that he is vulnerable if he pushes himself with the ball. He is now focusing a lot more on his batting. The team management understands that with the T20 World Cup coming later in the year, it’s better to give him more time off so that he could be in the best shape for the marquee event. He will be used sparingly depending on the match situation,” the source said.
