England entered the World Cup semifinals for the first time since the 1992 edition, beating an erring New Zealand by 119 runs to fuel their “dream” of winning a maiden title.
Three teams have successfully entered into the last four – Australia, India and England. New Zealand along with the 11 points look the most likely to join the 3 teams in the semifinal matches.
Australia have atop the table with the 14 points, followed by India with 13 points.
Hosts became the third team to lock their spot in the semifinal stage in Cricket World Cup as they have accumulated 12 points from the all group stage matches.
The team that atop the World Cup point table with the maximum points will play in semis with the fourth-placed team and the second highest point scorer team will play with the team that finished at the third.
According to the above format and current point table, Australia will lock horns with the Black Caps and India will take on the hosts England at the semifinal matches.
But still, there is one group stage match of both two semifinal qualified teams left- Australia vs South Africa and India vs Sri Lanka. If in the clash between Australia and South Africa, Australia lose against proteas or the match tie or wash out and the Man in Blue win their last group stage match against Sri Lanka by a margin(that will increase their run rate) on 6th July then India will face the Kiwis in the semifinal stage as they will lead the table with 15 points.
Thus if India finishes at the no. 1 spot they will play against New Zealand on Tuesday, otherwise, they will play against England on Thursday.
