Virat Kohli, riding his impactful century in the Pink Ball Test, has closed in on Steve Smith atop the International Cricket Council Test rankings. The Indian skipper with 928 batting points in the No. 2 position is a mere three points shy of the table topper.

Mayank Agarwal, on the back of his double centuries, has broken into the top ten for the first time. Cheteswar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, are the other two Indians in  the top ten Test batsmen’s list.

Kohli’s commanding century in Kolkata helped him bridge the gap with top-ranked Smith from 25 to three points while opener Mayank Agarwal has reached the top 10 for the first time.

India fast bowlers Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav also reached at career-high points tallies after victory over Bangladesh. Ishant has 716 points but is in 17th place, way behind his career-best seventh place achieved in July 2011.

Among the top 10 bowlers, Jaspreet Bumrah stays in the fifth position in spite of missing two series; while Ravindera Jadeja (15th) and Umesh Yadav (21st) are the other Indian bowlers among the top 25 other than Ishant.

Jadeja and Ashwin also figure in the top five all-rounders’ table.
