ICC T20 World Cup 2022: UAE defeated Namibia by seven runs in Geelong on Thursday to prevent their opponent from moving on to the Super 12 round of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. As a result of Namibia’s shocking loss, Netherlands joined Sri Lanka, their opponents earlier in the day, in the Super 12 stage of the competition. Netherlands joined Team India and Pakistan in Super 12 Group 2 of ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The European team went into India’s group after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) clinched a seven-run victory over Namibia in their last group stage encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The defeat knocked Namibia out of the WC and cleared the path for the Netherlands to go through to the Super 12s. This also means Sri Lanka will join Afghanistan, England, Australia, and New Zealand in Group 1 in Super 12 making that a ‘Group of Death’.

The Netherlands are joining India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa in Group 2 in Super 12 by the virtue of finishing as runner-up of Group A.

The Dutch players were hooked to the television to watch UAE vs Namibia. And to their delight, Erasmus’ men ended up on 141/8 in the end, seven runs short, as UAE bowed out of the tournament with a morale-boosting win. This win of UAE sent raptures in the dressing room of Netherlands as they all got together in a huddle to celebrate their qualification. All players could be seen dancing and jumping on each other after entering the next round of the T20 World Cup.

Earlier in the day, Netherlands were at receiving end as Kusal Mendis’ classy half-century helped Sri Lanka in registering a 16-run win in their cut-throat ICC Men’s T20 World Cup clash in Geelong. The Island nation confirmed their berth in the Super 12 phase as a result of this victory.

While on Tuesday, Netherlands clinched nail-biting five-wicket triumph over Namibia in Geelong. It came down to the final over with the Netherlands needing six to win and experienced all-rounder Bas de Leede held his nerve and made sure he did enough to clinch the Player of the Match award by guiding his side home with three balls remaining.
