As the global board considers US as one of the BIG-DRIVER of growth for the sport, ICC is targetting BIG-BUCK deal from the American market.

On Monday, ICC released media rights tender for the Indian sub-continent.

Who is ICC Targetting? Top ICC officials including Anurag Dahiya, Chief Commercial Officer and Sunil Manoharan, ICC’s VP-Media Rights will meet US broadcasters.

ICC has set their sights on NBC, ESPN CBS, Amazon, Times Internet-owned Willow TV and Viacom.

Out of the broadcasters, ICC has especially targeted the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). NBC has a lot of South Asian audiences while it also has the broadcasting rights of the Olympics.

Dahiya and Manoharan’s first stop will be in New York where they will be meeting NBC officials.

Also in New York, the two officials will meet Willow TV executives. Willow TV is also co-owned by Times Internet, which bagged the digital rights of IPL 2023-27 for the US and the middle east.

Both Dahiya and Manoharan will make a pit stop at Connecticut to meet ESPN officials. ESPN is one of the most popular sports broadcasting networks in the US and one of the largest broadcast companies in the world.

Furthermore, ICC officials will also meet the officials of American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) which is the USA Cricket’s Commercial arm.

ICC also released its Media Rights Tender following BCCI’s IPL Media Rights. The Indian cricket board bagged a whopping Rs 48,390 Crore deal for Digital and Broadcasting Rights for the 2023-27 cycle.

What events will be included in ICC Media Rights Tender?

  • For the first time ever, men’s and women’s rights will be sold separately.
  • Prospective partners can bid for 16 Men’s events (over 8 years) and six Women’s events (over 4 years), totalling 362 and 103 matches respectively.
  • The next ICC cycle for men’s cricket will include 4 T20 World Cups and 2 50-over World Cups.
  • The world cups will be alternated with 2 Champions Trophy tournaments and 4 World Test Championship (WTC) Finals.
  • Women’s cricket cycle will see 4 T20 World Cups and 2 Cricket World Cups, along with 2 T20 Champions Trophy tournaments.
  • For the Indian sub-continent, Disney-Star had bagged the ICC media rights for an eight-year cycle from 2015 to 2023 for a whopping $2 billion.
  • The deal was almost twice the $1.1 billion that ESPN Star Sports a former joint-venture of Disney and Fox had paid for the 2007-14 cycle.
  • Indian rights will be completed by September while the rights for India will be completed by October. By December, Australia-New Zealand and South Africa territories will be covered.
