Srikanth came from behind to defeat China’s Lu Guang Zu in three-game thriller. Earlier in the day, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Chen Lu and Olympic champion Lee Yang in a thrilling men’s doubles R32 match, 19-21, 21-19, 21-16. However, Sameer Verma and HS Prannoy both exited after suffering injuries. Saina Nehwal also suffered a 15-21, 8-21 defeat to World No.10 Busanan Ongbamrungphan. After going down 15-21 in the first, Srikanth bounced back to defeat his Chinese opponent in the next two games 21-14, 21-13.

Saina Nehwal lost to Busanan Ongbamrungphan: On Court 2, India’s Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal suffered a 15-21, 8-21 defeat to World No.10 Busanan Ongbamrungphan. It’s 6th consecutive defeat for Saina against the Thai shuttler. This is also 4th consecutive 1st round loss for the former World No. 1.

The third seeded Indians, who won the French Open Super 750 title last week for their biggest win on the world tour, overcame a game deficit to beat Yang and Chen 19-21 21-19 21-16 in their first-ever meeting.

The world number eight pairing next face England’s Rory Eastron and Zach Russ. Satwik and Chirag is having a dream run this year. They won the Indian Open, Commonwealth Games gold, Thomas Cup crown and an unprecedented bronze at the World Championships in August.
