French Open 2021 Day 7 LIVE – Nadal, Federer, Djokovic in action:
Day 7: Men’s singles
World No.1 Novak Djokovic defeated Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis in round three of the French Open 2021. He lost just one point (6-1, 6-1) in the dominating first set and third set while he claimed the second set 6-4 against the little-known Berankis. In the second set, the latter showed some spark, but he was no match for the experienced Djokovic.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal won the third round match against UK’s Cameron Norrie to progress into the fourth round of the French Open at Roland Garros. The match finished 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in favour of the Spaniard. Norrie could not live up to expectation and crashed out after he couldn’t win a single set against Nadal.
Roger Federer vs Dominik Koepfer: After a match that went on for 3 hours and 35 minutes, Federer came out on top.
Competing in his 422nd Major match, Roger Federer defeated the German Dominik Koepfer 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5. He will play in the last 16 in Paris for the 15th time in a career.
The 27-year-old Koepfer surrendered everything he had at Federer, firing 55 winners and 40 unforced errors to stay in touch from start to finish.
Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion who turns 40 on Aug. 8, was last bounced from the French Open in the third round 17 years ago; since then, his successes there included winning the 2009 trophy and reaching four other finals (losing to Rafael Nadal each time).
Day 7: Women’s singles
In what was a mouthwatering clash between Iga Swiatek vs Anett Kontaveit, the duo light up the atmosphere at Roland Garros with some fine shots, taking the opening set itself to tie-breaker in the French Open third-round clash. Swiatek held her nerves to claim the 1st set 7-6 (7-4). She then went on to lead the contest in the second set by producing her A-game (6-0).
