Formula E Hyderabad: Formula E is all set to make its way to India for the first time ever. The third round of FIA sanctioned Formula E World Championship will be held in Hyderabad on February 11. Electric single seaters cars are set to go around the Hussain Sagar lake in the city during the course of the event. Ahead of the race, India’s Tennis legend Sania Mirza has posted a promotional video. She conformed her presence in Hyderabad during the event and also asked the fans to witness the historic race. Hyderbad ePrix will be the third round of the FIA sanctioned World Championship. The racing track will be around the Hussain Sagar lake. Fully electric single seaters cars are set to go vrooming at a top speed of 320 kmph. Renewable energy major Greenko and Telangana government are local promoters of the race.
Posting a video on her Instagram account, Sania Mirza said, “Season 9 of the FIA Formula E World Championship is coming to India’s greenest city of Hyderabad. I look forward to seeing you all there at Greenko Hyderabad E Prix on February 11. Let’s make Motor-racing greener as India drives towards a de-carbonised and sustainable future.”
A total of 11 teams and 22 drivers will be seen participating in the world championship. There will be no Indian drivers. However, there will be Indian representation. Mahindra Racing is one of the 11 teams that will feature in the race in Hyderabad.
The race in Hyderabad will be the first time a major international racing event is held in the country. India last hosted the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix in October 2013. It was held at the Buddh International Circuit, Delhi.
The upcoming race is expected to provide a big boost to Indian motorsports. The sport has been in dire need of a high-profile event in India since Formula 1 was scrapped after three seasons. The Formula E will be held in India through 2026 as per a four-year deal.
Sania Mirza meanwhile has played her career’s last Grand Slam event at the Australian Open this year. She finished as runner-up in the Mixed Doubles alomgside Rohan Bopanna. She is scheduled to play her career’s final tournament in Dubai next month, which will be a WTA 1000 event.
