According to the German newspaper BILD, Schumacher might not even be able to keep his Haas seat intact. Meanwhile, ‘initial’ talks have taken place with the team but the report from BILD claims, “The relationship between the two parties is difficult. Guenther Steiner has been publicly critical of Mick in the past.”

It proceeds to say that the young German might be losing the support of Ferrari’s team principal Mattia Binotto, which would be tragic for his dreams about emulating his dad’s example by one-day racing for Ferrari.

The German is in his second season with Haas, however, his current contract with the team ends at the end of the 2022 season. Till now there has been little sign with respect to whether the contract will be restored. However, team principal Guenther Steiner has given a few clues lately.

One of them came last month itself when he demanded his group has similarly as a very remarkable say over his future as Ferrari. Schumacher is important for the Italian group’s development program and satisfies reserve duties for the Italian team that was once inseparable from his dad’s name.

Meanwhile, Schumacher will be a free agent toward the year’s end, the resigning Sebastian Vettel raised speculations when he recommended Schumacher could have his spot at Aston Martin. However, those rumours were immediately closed down when Fernando Alonso was decided to fill that seat only a couple of days after the fact.

Famous F1 pundit, Felix Gorner told RTL, “Sebastian’s good words to Lawrence Stroll didn’t help. That means there is only Haas for [Schumacher] next season. It’s now important for him to negotiate well in the next few weeks to secure his seat.”

Schumacher’s uncle and former F1 driver Ralf, last week said the 23-year-old ‘should have delivered good results’. Ralf even recently slammed Haas and Steiner for their own public criticism.

But for now, Ralf feels continuing for Haas will be a good decision for Mick. “For my nephew, Aston Martin would have been a good option. But he’s already with a team in Haas that is doing a good job and making progress,” Ralf said.

“Mick’s performance has improved significantly over the past few weeks, so I can well imagine them staying together. I don’t know what else Haas could do, because there aren’t that many experienced drivers on the market. And we can see that new drivers need a long start-up time with these cars and no testing,” Ralf concluded.
