Formula 1: Midfield teams ranging from Alpine to AlphaTauri’s performance in F1 2022 season: The F1 2022 season saw changes in its regulations as new ground-effect cars came into existence which made it possible for teams to battle more closely on the track and the constructors’ standings is led by Red Bull. Currently, Alpine takes the fourth spot in the constructors’ standings with 99 points to their name. They are followed by McLaren, who are only four points shy of the French team with 95 points. The sixth place is taken by Alfa Romeo who only have 51 points to their name.

Moreover, the seventh spot goes to Haas as they have shown plenty of improvement this season in comparison to their other seasons. The eighth place goes to AlphaTauri who only have 27 points to their name.

Starting with Alpine, both their driver have performed exceedingly well after strong performances in qualifying and even in the races. Fernando Alonso has currently signed with Aston Martin on a multi-year deal from the 2023 season. His best finish of the season came at the British GP where he finished fifth. Moreover, he has only two DNFs to his name in this season. Alonso currently sits 10th in the drivers’ standings with 41 points.

Esteban Ocon has also performed on par with Alonso as his best finish came at the Austrian GP, where he finished fifth overall and has two DNFs against his name. Ocon currently sits at the eighth spot in the drivers’ standings with just 58 points to his name.

McLaren got it all wrong with their new MCL36 challenger as they have been the fifth fastest car on the grid. Moreover, Daniel Ricciardo’s future with the team is in the dark as Zak Brown is reportedly going to pay him in order to buy out his last year to replace him with Oscar Piastri.

Ricciardo has not had a great start to the F1 2022 season as he only scored points in four races out of the thirteen that have taken place. Moreover, he has only one DNF to his name as his best finish came at the Australian GP where he finished sixth overall. He currently has 19 points to his name and is 12th overall in the drivers’ standings.

Whereas, Lando Norris has somewhat performed well in an uncompetitive car and has been amongst the points as well. His best finish came at the Emilia-Romagna GP where he finished P3 and sees only one DNF against his name. Norris is currently seventh overall with 76 points to his name in the drivers’ standings.

Then comes Alfa Romeo’s duo Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. Bottas was signed this year only on a multi-year contract after staying with Mercedes for five long years. He started his season on a high note and was amongst the points but the last four races have seen him go down in terms of performance. Bottas’ best finish of the season came at the Emilia-Romagna GP where he finished fifth and has two DNFs against his name. He is currently ninth in the standings with 46 points.

Then comes the rookie driver of the season Zhou Guanyu who started his season on a high after scoring in his debut race in Bahrain. But, from that point onwards his performance came down as he recorded two back-to-back DNFs and in total has four DNFs against his name. Zhou currently sits 17th overall in the drivers’ standings with just 5 points.

Haas is the next team in the mix-up as their drivers have improved massively in terms of performance this season. Firstly, they signed Kevin Magnussen as they axed Nikita Mazepin from their ranks after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He has been the shining light for the American team as his performances have lifted the group. Magnussen’s best finish came at the season opener where he claimed the fifth spot and has three DNFs against his name. The Dane driver currently sits 11th in the drivers’ standings with 22 points.

Then comes his teammate Mick Schumacher who finally broke the deadlock of scoring points in F1 after back-to-back point finishes at British and Austrian races. He has two DNFs against his name and his best finish came at the Austrian GP, where he claimed the sixth spot. Schumacher currently sits 15th in the drivers’ standings with 12 points to his name.

Last but not the least, AlphaTauri is the last team in the midfield battle who have also got it all wrong with their AT03 challenger. They have not been up to the mark this year as they have struggled to finish amongst the points. Yuki Tsunoda, who is in his second year with the team has not performed up to the mark as his best finish came at the Emilia-Romagna GP where he finished seventh and has two DNFs against his name. Tsunoda sees himself 16th in the drivers’ standings with just 11 points to his name.

Furthermore, Pierre Gasly signed a new contract with the team which will see him drive for them the season too. Gasly has had a troublesome year as his best finish came at the Azerbaijan GP where he claimed the fifth spot and has three DNFs against his name. The French driver is currently 13th in the drivers’ standings with just 16 points to his name.

The next race will take place on 28th August after the summer break finishes and will be in the form of the Belgian Grand Prix at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. The teams will be all charged up to turn around their fortunes in the second half of the F1 2022 season.
