Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has made it clear he is willing to keep Vettel in the team for at least another season. “I’m not going to speak about contracts here. But obviously, if you have a driver like Sebastian Vettel that you can keep motivated by giving him the car that he deserves,” he said.

“I think you would be foolish not to try to retain him. It’s up to us to deliver the tool that is needed for him to perform,” Krack further claimed.

While Aston Martin might be planning for the future with Vettel, the four-time world champion is clearly disheartened with the Silverstone-based group’s new car, which he portrayed at Imola as ‘not fast’.

Vettel didn’t even rule out going back to his old team Red Bull, where we won most of his races and titles. “I haven’t spoken with Christian Horner for a while, so I don’t know. I mean, time will tell. At the minute I think the focus is on the now and on a mountain ahead of us that we try to climb,” said Vettel.

Meanwhile, Vettel only took part in two out of four races as he was tested positive for Covid 19. First, he missed the season opener, Bahrain Grand Prix, and then the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

He was deemed fit to race in the Australian Grand Prix but he registered a DNF against his name. However, he came back strongly in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and finished eighth.
