Williams teased the F1 world with a statement on Wednesday that they would make a declaration at 3 pm. It made many speculations that they could uncover their aim to sign Piastri, after his shock dismissal of the empty Alpine seat the other day.

The Australian had uncovered that news in a tweet and the phrasing was copied by Albon as his own future was secured. “I understand that, with my agreement, Williams Racing have put out a press release this afternoon that I am driving for them next year,” Albon said.

“This is right and I have signed a contract with Williams for 2023. I will be driving for Williams next year,” Albon added. The young Australian driver saw the funny side as he congratulated Albon on his new contract.

“Congrats mate,” and with the caption, he even added a GIF, “Well done sir, that was very good,” Piastri added. Williams’ declaration affirms no less than one of their drivers beyond the end of the year.

Formula 1: Oscar Piastri denies signing for Alpine as their second driver for the 2023 season.

Meanwhile, Albon has performed well in an uncompetitive car in the 2022 season so far and has done what’s needed to procure a new ‘long term’ deal affirming his stay on the grid until essentially the finish of the 2024 season.

“I am really excited to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year. The team has made some strong gains this year and it’s exciting to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together,” Albon further added.

The second driver for Williams in the 2023 season still stays a secret. Nicholas Latifi’s future is in danger subsequent to disappointing results, and the Canadian is supposed to be replaced.

Moreover, Mercedes’ reserve driver Nyck de Vries is among the top picks alongside F2 racer Logan Sargeant. However, Piastri is possible as Williams and Alpine were dealing with a credit-style bargain before Fernando Alonso reported his Aston Martin move.
