F1 French GP: Williams is all set to give the same performance upgrades to Nicholas Latifi’s car at the French Grand Prix as Alex Albon has been testing these upgrade packages since the British GP. Follow Formula 1 and French GP LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN
Dave Robson, head of vehicle performance at William’s said, “Although the weather in Silverstone and the Sprint format in Austria were not ideal for testing, we have seen enough encouraging feedback to be confident that we have taken a step forward,”
“With the weather likely to be warm, dry, and stable this weekend, we’ll look to use Friday’s running to get Nicky up to speed with the new parts and also to continue to understand how best to exploit the performance of the new package,” Robson added.
The group confirmed on Tuesday it presently had parts for the two vehicles after Albon gave them a shot in Britain and Austria. Though, things didn’t go as planned for the ex-Red Bull driver as he had to retire from the first lap of the British GP due to a multi-car accident.
Although, Albon had a good race at the Red Bull Ring but he dropped positions and saw himself out of the points as he finished twelfth overall. Meanwhile, he was the only driver Williams thought of giving the upgrade packages to first.
Nicholas Latifi has himself endured a disastrous start to the F1 2022 season as the Canadian is still yet to score points in his second season in the sport. He has endured two DNFs against his name and his best finish came at the British GP where he finished twelfth overall.
Canadian Latifi, whose situation at the group past this season is unsure, is the only driver on the grid yet to score points with the 22-race title presently entering its second half at Le Castellet.
“We’ve seen some positive signs from it [the upgrade package] on Alex’s car so far, so I’m looking forward to getting my first taste. Hopefully, it can bring us that extra bit of relative pace that we’ve missed and put us more in the fight,” Latifi said.
Meanwhile, Williams, which is one of the prestigious teams in the pinnacle of motorsport is reeling behind in the tenth spot in constructors’ standings with just three points to their name. These three points were scored by Alex Albon after finishing tenth and ninth in the Australian and Miami GP.
