Unfortunately, Carlos Sainz’s third engine failed abruptly in the closing moments of the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend when his F1-75 challenger caught fire. He was forced to stop on the side when he was chasing Max Verstappen, the Spanish driver was on track to finish in second place behind his Maranello teammate in Austria.

This engine change will possibly mean yet another penalty, meaning he will have to start from the back of the grid at the upcoming French GP next week.

Carlos Sainz experienced his fourth DNF of the current Formula 1 season, 3 of them were due to power unit problems. Sainz’s retirement in Austria was also a blow to his championship hopes, the driver now 75 points behind Max Verstappen in the Driver’s standings.
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc was also forced to start from the rear of the grid in Canada a few weeks ago after changing two power units. He successfully recovered his Ferrari F1-75, moving it from position 19th on the starting grid to 5th position during the Canadian GP.
Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto admitted he is concerned about the recent reliability problems encountered by the team. “It’s certainly a concern, but the people working back at Maranello are working very hard trying to fix them, which is not solved yet. And if you look at what happened to Carlos, it has not been solved yet. But we will have new elements and I know how hard they are working, how good they are and I can count on them that it will be addressed as soon as possible.” – he explained.
