Euro 2020, Croatia vs Scotland: Key Battle 1
Luka Modric vs Scott McTominay
Modric has struggled to replicate the heights achieved with Croatia at the 2018 World Cup during the Euros this summer. There have been key absentees from the Croatian team that finished runners-up in Russia three years ago, with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Mario Mandzukic calling it time with the national team.
However, Modric continues to remain the lynchpin in midfield. The Real Madrid star has shown no signs of hanging up his boots and will almost definitely want to stick around for the World Cup next year.
Focusing on the very immediate future, Modric has to now deal with a determined Scotland to try and help Croatia stay alive in the tournament. Andy Robertson and company are buoyed after holding England to a goalless draw at Wembley.
Since Billy Gilmour is set to miss the game after contracting COVID-19, McTominay could return to a more natural holding role in midfield against Croatia. As such, the Manchester United star will be tasked with the duty of tracking Modric throughout the game.

Andy Robertson vs Ivan Perisic
Robertson has excelled in the wing-back role for Scotland. The Liverpool star loves bombing forward and has the qualities to make a difference inside the final third.
Against Croatia, Robertson is expected to be up against Perisic. The veteran winger works extremely well in attack and defence and can be a fierce competitor on the flanks.
It will be interesting to see who emerges on top in this exciting battle on the flanks. Perisic will be keen to continue his goal-scoring form, whereas Robertson will be set out to stop him.
Euro 2020, Croatia vs Scotland: Key Battle 3
Dejan Lovren vs Lyndon Dykes
Dykes is a willing runner and relishes the opportunity of getting in behind defences. The QPR striker has yet to find the back of the net at the Euros, but came close in each of Scotland’s first two games.
Considering the fact that Croatia look a bit susceptible at the back, Dykes could offer a considerable threat while leading the line for Scotland.
Lovren did not enjoy the best of returns to the side against Czech Republic as he conceded a penalty. Although Croatia did come away with a point, Lovren still has a point to prove. In order to do so, he must efficiently deal with the threat from Dykes.
