England vs West Indies 1st Test Day 2 LIVE: England lose half their side before lunch; Shannon Gabriel strikes thrice

Jason Holder and Shannon Gabriel have bowled their heart out in favourable conditions. Overcast sky and moisture on the surface helped and these two bowlers have robbed England of half their side. Gabriel and Holder shared the spoils with the former claiming three wickets.

Gabriel, who took the cap of Sibley last night, looked in full throttle as he picked up the wickets of Denly and Burns in quick succession. The Windies skippers soon joined the party with a double whammy of Zak Crawley and youngster Ollie Pope.

Earlier, Rory Burns scripted a milestone to become the first England opener to score 1,000 Test runs since Alastair Cook did it against India at The Oval in 2007.

A crucial dropped catch of Ben Stokes might be the only wrong step the visitors took in an absorbing first session of play on Day 2.

West Indies need to break this partnership between Stokes and Buttler because these are two shot-makers who can score very quickly and nullify the advantage that the Windies have taken currently. England’s batting is deep and the lower order has quite often bailed them out.

The historic encounter also for the first time was played under the new guidelines outlined by the ICC in the wake of the corona pandemic. As per ICC’s new guidelines, cricketers cannot use saliva to shine the ball. ICC has also allowed COVID replacements in case some player is found positive.

Not to forget, an extra DRS review will be given to each team in case of an unsuccessful decision from the on-field umpire. This has been done keeping in mind the less experienced umpires officiating in the games as ICC has done away with neutral umpires during corona times.
