ENG W vs IND W 2nd ODI: Four Indian women cricketer who need to find form

ENG W vs IND W: Four Indian women cricketer who need to find form ahead of 2nd ODI – Indian women’s team captain Mithali Raj was the lone warrior in the first ODI where she scored a fighting fifty to help her side get past 200 against England. However, she could not get the much-needed support from the others and India failed to put up a match-winning total in the first innings. Neither Harmanpreet Kaur nor Smriti Mandhan could get going in the first ODI. Shafali Verma, who made her debut in ODI cricket, was removed in the fifth over.

While on the other hand, in the bowling department, veteran Jhulan Goswami was the only one who was troubling the English batters. All-rounder Deepti Sharma also bowled some beautiful spells but was wicketless. Out of form Shikha Pandey and Ekta Bisht were hammered by England batters all around the park. And in the end, England won the game by eight wickets.

We at Insidesport will take you through the list of four Indian women cricketers who need to find form in the 2nd ODI against England.

ENG W vs IND W: Shafali Verma

Shafali made her debut in the first ODI but could not make it a big one. Captain Mithali Raj has expressed that there won’t be any pressure on her but the team is dependent on her performance. One of the prime reason why India lost the first match was they played as many as 181 dot balls which increased pressure. But India can counter this with Shafali. She is a naturally aggressive player and can give India a flying start which will help India gain an early advantage.

ENG W vs IND W: Harmanpreet Kaur

In the last 10 games, Harmanpreet Kaur has scored just one-fifty. Harmanpreet has experience of over 10 years in international cricket and thus she is expected to give the finishing touch to the innings. In the first ODI as well she was expected to be the bridge between the top order and the all-rounder but she was removed by Sophie Ecclestone on 1. If India are to bounce back in the game then Kaur needs to bring her A-game to the table.

ENG W vs IND W: Shikha Pandey

India pacer Shikha Pandey was hammered for 30 runs in five overs. After her first spell, Mithali did not bowl her at all and instead went for the part-time bowling of Harmanpreet. In her last 10 matches, Shikha has picked just six wickets. Her last three international matches’ record gets even worse as the right arm pacer failed to take a single wicket. In the swing friendly condition of England, there will not be a better opportunity for Pandey to get back in form.

ENG W vs IND W: Ekta Bisht

Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht was one of the two bowlers who picked a wicket against England in the first ODI. But she was hammered for 55 runs in eight overs at an economy close to seven. Bishtwas brought back in the side after an outstanding perfomance in domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh Women. However, she failed to replicate the same in the first ODI. Team India could replace her with a pace-bowling option but if she gets a chance then she should grab it with both hands.
