Domestic Cricketers Compensation Package – BCCI Apex Council Meeting: Finally some good news is coming in for the Indian domestic cricketers. In all likelihood, Indian domestic cricketers will be paid 50 to 60% of the total income for the Covid impacted 2020-21 season. The working group formed to decide on the compensation package of the domestic cricketers has given their recommendations to the board & now the same will be discussed and finalized during the BCCI’s APEX Council meeting on 20th September

Domestic Cricketers Compensation Package – BCCI Apex Council Meeting: The much-delayed compensation package for a curtailed domestic season due to the pandemic will be discussed during the BCCI APEX Meeting. The compensation committee includes four office-bearers of BCCI – Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah, Rajiv Shukla, Arun Dhumal – along with Yudhvir Singh (Central Zone), Devajit Saikia (Northeast Zone), Santosh Menon (South Zone), Rohan Jaitley (North Zone), Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), Jaydev Shah (West Zone) and Mohammad Azharuddin as the other members.

According to the information available, the committee has recommended that all Domestic Cricketers should be paid 50-60% of the payment made in the previous season (2019-20). As 4 of the big-wigs of BCCI are part of the compensation committee, it will be a mere formality that the recommendations are passed by the BCCI APEX COUNCIL.
Domestic Cricketers Compensation Package – BCCI Apex Council Meeting:The COVID-19 outbreak led to the suspension of the Ranji Trophy in 2020-21. Most of the domestic cricketers survive on the payments made by the BCCI during the season, the board has decided to compensate the cricketers for the cancelled season. According to the information, not only the Ranji Trophy cricketers, but the same formula is likely to apply for women cricketers and for age-group events.

The compensation package item is listed as No. 3 on the agenda for the meeting.
Agenda for the BCCI Apex Council Meeting – Scheduled on 20th Sep:
– Confirmation of the minutes of the 7th and 8th Apex Council Meetings
– To provide an update on ICC T20 World Cup 2021
– Discussion on the compensation to be given to first-class cricketers (men and women for 2020-21 season
– To ratify the prevention of Sexual Harassment policy to be adopted by the BCCI
– To provide an update on the BCCI domestic cricket season of the year 2021-22
– To provide an update on the international home season of the year
– Discussion on infrastructure Subsidy Claims submitted by the State Cricket Associations which are more than two years old
– To consider any other business which the chairman may consider necessary to be included in the agenda
Domestic Cricketers Compensation Package – BCCI Apex Council Meeting: As reported earlier, there are also ongoing discussions to increase the payment of domestic cricketers starting this season but nothing has been finalized. The matter is unlikely to come up for discussions during the BCCI Apex Council Meeting.
Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season from 5 January to 20 March; Vijay Hazare Trophy to be held in December 2021
Meanwhile, BCCI as per the earlier communique had released the itinerary for domestic cricket in India with the 2021-22 season of the Ranji Trophy tournament scheduled to be played between 5 January to 20 March.
The Ranji Trophy wasn’t held during last season due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the logistical obstacles faced for having an extended bio-bubble for 38 teams.
The blue-riband tournament is back in BCCI’s domestic calendar but the senior men’s cricket will commence from 27 October with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will be held after the IPL in order to ensure availability of quality cricketers.
