MS Dhoni has captained the most matches in IPL history, with the ex-CSK skipper leading his side 204 times, 64 more times than the next best Virat Kohli. In his 14 IPL seasons, Dhoni played as a “player” for only one season, when Steve Smith was handed the mantle while in Pune. In the 13 seasons, Dhoni led his team to 11 playoffs finishes, winning the title four times.

In a statement, the franchise announced that Dhoni has passed the captaincy baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who will become the third player to lead CSK. “MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” CSK wrote.

Jadeja, who has been an integral part of CSK since 2012, will only be the third player to lead the Chennai-based franchise. Dhoni will continue to represent CSK this season, an official statement from the franchise confirmed.

Dhoni has captained in 204 matches in the IPL-winning 121, losing 82 and one match ended in a no-result with a win percentage of 59.60. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK have won four IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021 as well as two Champions League T20 titles in 2010 and 2014.
