The ace spinner on Monday announced that he is taking a break from IPL to support family amid the unprecedented COVID-19 situation in India. Losing the service of Ashwin, who has been a vital cog in DC’s wheel, midway into the competition has come as a big blow for DC management.

Besides his prowess with the ball, it is Ashwin’s skills without it that makes him a dangerous player. The Tamil Nadu-born is known for his thorough plans for his opponents which he executes perfectly. Moreover, he also does the same labour for his fellow teammates to make their outings easier. Besides, this Ashwin gave Rishabh pant an extra option in the powerplay in case the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Chris Woakes struggle. There were other uses of Ashwin.

R Ashwin is one of the senior players in the DC camp. He can help Rishabh Pant make key decisions.

– The 34-year-old is the only specialist spinner who has the experience to bowl in powerplay overs.

Even if he fails to chip wickets, Ashwin makes sure not to leak runs. This way he keeps the pressure on the opposition batters.

Also, his recent performance during Test series against England at Narendra Modi Stadium would have been crucial for DC. Delhi will play four games in Ahmedabad. It is the same stadium, where the offie along with his teammate Axar Patel wreaked havoc. He had taken 15 wickets against England in 2 Tests at the venue. The 34-year-old ended up picking 32 wickets in the 4-match series.
