DC vs MI in IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians (MI) are back to their winning ways and now gear up to secure their third victory on the trot when they face Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals (DC). Led by Rohit Sharma, Mumbai has been at the helm of the five-time defending champions since 2013. In his nine years as MI skipper, he has made Mumbai into a formidable force. Eyeing their sixth title, Rohit has set some plans for the team. Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene ahead of the DC clash gave a small hint into it.
“Overall, we are happy with our batting tempo but knowing Rohit, he will keep pushing the team and get us to an even more powerful score,” he said during the pre-match conference.
The MI vs DC IPL 2021 match will be played in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, which is known for its rank-turners. However, the challenging conditions of Chennai, which is spin-friendly and can become a nightmare for batsmen, does not worry the former Sri Lankan batsman.
“The Chennai wicket is challenging but not unplayable. We knew that when we came here. We can’t control the pitch, we can’t control the situations. What we can control is our mindset and gameplay, that is what we focus on,” he added.
MI vs DC in IPL 2021: Rahul Chahar growing as a player
Rahul Chahar has hit the sweet spot in his career. The spinner has been in good form and is currently the second-highest wicket-taker. In three games, he has chipped seven wickets with best figure of 4/27. Jayawardene expressed his happiness with Chahar’s progress and said: “Rahul Chahar has been performing well for us since the last 3 years. He is still a young player and is constantly learning. We are very happy with his progress.”
He also praised Suryakumar Yadav and the MI bowling unit for their contribution in Mumbai’s recent wins.
“Surya has evolved his game and his thought process over the last 3 years, he can bat in multiple situations of the match. We are proud of his contribution for India and he is a valuable asset for our team.
“Having seasoned campaigners like Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya and Trent Boult is very beneficial to our bowling department,” he said.
DC vs MI in IPL 2021: When will Hardik Pandya bowl?
There have been a lot of question over when will Hardik Pandya bowl. Putting rest to it, Jayawardene said Pandya is currently being assessed and should be available for bowling soon. “In his last ODI series against England, Hardik picked up a niggle. We don’t want to risk an injury with him bowling. He’s being assessed currently and we should see him bowl over the next few weeks“.
