India has so far won just three medals in the sport at the Commonwealth Games. In 2014, Joshna Chinnappa and Dipika Pallikal won gold in the women’s doubles and in the previous edition at Gold Coast, the duo won the silver medal, while Dipika also won another silver in the mixed doubles event alongside Saurav Ghosal.
India is yet to win a singles medal and Joshna Chinnappa and Saurav Ghosal will look to end the drought this time. Apart from Ghosal, Ramit Tandon and Abhay Singh will be featuring in the men’s singles. While Tandon and Abhay will also play in the men’s doubles which will also have Harinder Sandhu and Velavan Senthilkumar,
The Women’s Singles is led by Joshna Chinnappa. Sunayana Kuruvilla will also feature in singles while 14-year old Anahat Singh also has been selected to represent the country in singles. Meanwhile, Dipika Pallikal will only play in the women’s doubles, where she will partner Chinnappa. She will also play in the mixed doubles.
