Chennai Super Kings became the first team to advance to the Indian Premier League 2023 final, where they will take on either Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, or Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals’ Ravichandran Ashwin made a humorous prediction regarding the finals opponent for the Men in Yellow. The 36-year-old posted a picture of Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Krunal Pandya in an Instagram story with the text, “So!! MS Dhoni Retirement on HOLD, Thala to take call in December, says ‘I have 8-9 months to decide’

For the unaware, Hardik and Krunal Pandya were both members of the Mumbai Indians until 2022, when two new franchises—the Gujarat Titans, whose captain is Hardik, and the Lucknow Super Giants, currently led by Krunal were introduced. The Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Luckow Super Giants are all vying for a spot in the IPL 2023 final game against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The season is still not over, though, as the Hardik Pandya-led squad will have another chance to go to the final on Friday as they play the winner of the Eliminator match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad. This was Gujarat’s first loss against CSK ever and their fourth defeat while chasing in 18 games. Even though they barely made it to the playoffs and were written off by the majority of “IPL Experts,” Titans, a team that was almost invincible this season, fell victim to such a weak capitulation.

CSK batted first after Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl. Ruturaj Gaikwad with 60 runs as they reached 172/7. Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali all made significant cameos in addition to Devon Conway’s 40 runs. The top bowlers for GT were Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami, who each took two wickets.

The CSK bowlers had a firm hold on the GT batters early on in the second inning. As the CSK spinners consistently took wickets, none of the batters were able to get going. With two wickets each, Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, and Maheesh Theekshana all shone for CSK. Shubman Gill and Rahit Khan displayed some grit but the Titans eventually fell short by 15 runs.
