CSK vs KKR: Rejuvenated KKR aim to continue push for playoff spot, takes on MS Dhoni’s CSK: Eoin Morgan led Kolkata Knight Riders has started the UAE leg of the tournament with convincing wins over Royal Challengers Bangalore and reigning champions Mumbai Indians, after managing just two wins from seven games during the India leg of IPL 2021. The rejuvenated Kolkata side has looked a completely different outfit in UAE so far and has leap-frogged from the seventh spot to the fourth spot. They will be taking on MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in their next assignment on Sunday with an aim of remaining in the top four spots and strengthening their playoff contention.

Unlike the first phase of the tournament, they have got off to brilliant starts in both the games as the new opening pair of Venkatesh Iyer and Shubhman Gill has clicked so far for them. While the middle order hasn’t got much exposure in the two games, the explosive batting line-up featuring Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, and Andre Russell can take on the CSK bowling attack that mainly relies on swing more than pace. And, to add to it, KKR has played both their previous games at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium that will act as an advantage, having a better read of the playing conditions.

In the bowling, Lockie Ferguson, Prasidh Krishna, and Varun Chakravarthy have looked well in rhythm picking up ten wickets in total in the two games so far. The Knight Riders are heading into this game after defeating reigning champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets and would be flying high on confidence. Chennai Super Kings, on the opposite, are coming into this game after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in their previous encounter and need just one win to secure a spot in the IPL 2021 playoffs.

CSK vs KKR Last meeting: Chennai Super Kings registered 18 runs win over Eoin Morgan-led side when both teams met in Mumbai in the India-leg of the ongoing season. In a high-scoring thriller, Kolkata Knight Riders fell short by 18 runs, despite Dinesh Karthik’s 40, Andre Russell, and Pat Cummin’s unbeaten 66, and folded up at 202 runs while chasing 221 runs target. Faf du Plessis was adjudged man of the match for his unbeaten 95 off 60 deliveries while Deepak Chahar (4-29) and Lungi Ngidi (3-28) were the picks of bowler for CSK.

CSK vs KKR head-to-head: Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have met on 26 occasions in total with MS Dhoni-led outfit having an upper hand, winning 16 of those encounters. Kolkata Knight Riders have won nine games with one game ending in no result.
