Jasprit Bumrah Injury: After a string of injuries, India Cricket Team has some good news. Jasprit Bumrah has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for injury rehabilitation and assessment. While he remains pain-free, the NCA and the BCCI expect the premier pacer to return for Asia Cup 2023. Bumrah has been out since July 2022 with a recurrence of his back injury. He has since missed Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022 and the IPL 2023. Follow India Cricket Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.

“Jasprit is doing well. He has begun his rehab. It is a slow process because of the surgery. All are cautious with him. It has to be a step-by-step process. He will slowly get into a heavier workload to assess how he is handling it. He will begin bowling soon and hopefully, if everything goes well, he will be available for Asia Cup,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury: Bumrah eyes Asia Cup 2023 RETURN after NCA rehab, possible in India Tour of West Indies after missing IPL 2023, WTC Final 2023

Bumrah underwent a successful back surgery in New Zealand last month. As per a BCCI statement, Bumrah was advised to rest for six weeks before beginning rehab. Hence, he joined the NCA last Friday.

“The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery. Accordingly, Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the NCA in Bengaluru from Friday,” BCCI said in a statement.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury: Bumrah eyes Asia Cup 2023 RETURN after NCA rehab, possible in India Tour of West Indies after missing IPL 2023, WTC Final 2023

While he is certainly out of the WTC Final in June, there is a slim chance that he plays against Afghanistan just to warm up and have a taste of competitive cricket after a long absence. However, it will depend on how his rehab goes. Otherwise, if everything goes as per plan, West Indies tour is also a realistic target. West Indies tour is in late July and it will serve as a good platform before Asia Cup 2023.

“See, we always want him to return as soon as possible as he is that valuable to the team. But we can’t forget that we have a World Cup to play in. The more time he gets the better he will recover. If he is at 100% fitness, he will be on the West Indies tour or Asia Cup. But our aim is to get him fit for World Cup and that is the priority. With Bumrah, we can’t take any chances and as the medical team advises, we will follow,” the official told InsideSport.
