Cricket Australia – Justin Langer’s job on the line: Australia coach Justin Langer needs to change his ways if he has to remain head coach of Australia, as per the local media reports. With his contract heading into the final year, Langer was given ‘strong and straightforward feedback’ about his coaching techniques. How he will react to the situation will decide whether he will get a new contract or not?
The feedback comes from as many as 40 players and support staffs from the team’s usual end-of-season reviews.
Australian players also showed their dissatisfaction over the team manager Gavin Dovey after widespread dissatisfaction about Langer’s intense management style coupled with mood swings.
Justin Langer’s job on the line: As per Sydney Morning Herald, leadership consultant Tim Ford also conducted a second review process. He saw the reintegration of David Warner and Steve Smith with the team after completing the ban a couple of years ago. He will present his findings to team leaders Tim Paine, Aaron Finch and Pat Cummins next week.
The report claims that the response of players towards Langer’s role was not strong as the first one and all the response were kept private.
However, Cricket Australia insists that there was strong support for the coach.
“This is effectively identical to the process undertaken before the last World Cup and the 2019 Ashes where the team performed strongly,” CA’s national teams boss Ben Oliver told Herald and The Age.
“It’s part of our ongoing commitment to on- and off-field improvement and we expect it will have a similar benefit in the team’s preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup and home Ashes. Tim is again assisting us as he has in the past with gathering feedback and insights from players and staff. It’s always a thought-provoking and energising process which we get great value from,” he added.
Justin Langer’s job on the line: Langer had signed a four-year deal in 2018 after taking over in wake of sandpaper gate scandal in South Africa.
Australia tour of West Indies during June-July will be Lanher’s first in charge after shocking Test series defeat to India last season.
