With regular skipper Du Plessis out with an injury and just participating as a “Impact Player,” Kohli has been guiding RCB in the team’s recent IPL 2023 games. After the IPL 2021 season, Kohli stepped down as captain of the RCB, and Du Plessis took over as captain for the following campaign.
As the RCB take on the confident Lucknow Super Giants on Monday at the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow, they will be looking to reduce their reliance on their storied top-order. It is unrealistic to expect Kohli, Du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell to perform admirably in every match, thus Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Dinesh Karthik must step up.
After the defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, Kohli himself noted that RCB’s fielding and catching needed to be improved. Unless regular skipper Du Plessis, who has recently been used as an Impact Player due to a rib injury, regains full fitness, the former captain of India will continue to lead RCB.
