CPL 2021, GAW beat TKR: Pooran’s Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Pollard’s Trinbago Knight Riders in SUPER OVER thriller: Guyana Amazon Warriors registered a scintillating win over reigning champions Trinbago Knight Riders in the first Super Over of CPL 2021 on Wednesday night. It was quite a game as both teams fought neck to neck before Nicholas Pooran’s Guyana Amazon Warriors came out on top at the end. They pulled off a remarkable heist defending just 6 runs in a Super Over.
Chasing 139 runs target, Guyana Amazon Warriors weren’t even in the game till the fifth over but skipper Nicholas Pooran’s little cameo of 27 off 15 turned the game upside down before it finally got reduced to 2 needed off 1 ball with Imran Tahir on the strike. Akeal Hosein bowled a back-of-length delivery to Imran Tahir who pushed it through to the point region for a double but couldn’t finish the second run, as the match eventually ended in a tie.
GAW beat TKR: Sunil Narine bowled the Super Over for Trinbago Knight Riders and gave away just six runs against Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer. For the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Romario Shepherd bowled the match-winning over as he successfully defended the six runs against Kieron Pollard, Colin Munro, and Tim Siefert. Shepherd dismissed K Pollard on the very first ball and gave just four runs in total to seal the deal for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
“The coach told me before I went to bat that I’d bowl the over. I asked them once again during the over, Pooran said that I was going to bowl. I was confident, Pollard was the key wicket, it put them on the back-foot, with 7 needed I backed my strengths. I’m pleased, I’m developing as a batsman, I want to go out there and finish games for my team. Each and every game is important (for us), particularly this game, we didn’t want to go 3 games down on the bounce,” said Romario Shephard the Player of the Match as quoted by Cricbuzz.
GAW beat TKR: Earlier, Nicholas Pooran won the toss and opted to bowl first against Kieron Pollard’s Trinbago Knight Riders which proved right as they struck in the very first over as C Hemraj castled L Simmons. Since then it was no looking back for the Warriors as they keep picking up wickets at regular intervals. Mohammad Hafeez and Romario Shephard – were the picks of bowlers for Guyana Amazon Warriors as both picked three wickets each. For the Knight Riders, Colin Munro ended up as the top-scorer with 32 runs whereas Isuru Udana’s late cameo of 9-ball 21 at the end helped Trinbago Knight Riders post a decent total of 138/9.
