COVID-19: Sakshi takes guard as Dhoni trolled on wrong information

Wife Sakshi came to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s defence as the former Team India captain was trolled on social media and slammed by media on a wrong piece of information.

Twitterati was slamming Dhoni, among the richest cricketers in the world, as news spread that the Chennai Super Kings captain has only ₹ 1 lakh donation towards a Coronavirus fund to support 100 families for 14 days in Pune.

Media also picked the lead from a tweet by one Nirmala Tai. The message on Tai’s twitter handle read: “MS Dhoni has donated Rs 1 lakh to support 100 families for 14 days in Pune. His net worth is approximately Rs 800 crores.”

As soon as the message got viral, media also picked the piece of information without verifying the facts.

Dhoni is best known for ignoring trolls and not responding to media bashing. But Sakshi didn’t waste time to come out in defence of her husband and bash media for irresponsible reporting.

“Shame on you”, Sakshi stated in a strongly-worded tweet. Without categorically mentioning the ₹ 1 lakh donation false news, Sakshi drove home the point. “I request all media houses to stop carrying out false news at sensitive times like these ! Shame on You ! I wonder where responsible journalism has disappeared !,” read the message on her certified handle @SakshiSRawat.

It was stated that Dhoni had donated ₹ 1 lakh via a crowdfunding website Ketto to the Pune-based public charitable trust Mukul Madhav Foundation towards battle against the Coronavirus pandemic.

The amount being so small by Dhoni’s standard had attracted sharp criticism, while there were some other fans who had also praised him for the gesture.

Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have contributed ₹ 50 lakh each in cash and kind respectively to support the society in fight against Coronavirus.
