The former UFC champion, 34, sold his position in Proper No. Twelve with two other stockholders for a combined £500 million, generating total earnings of £150 million between May 2020 and May 2021. It paved the path for McGregor to become Forbes’ Highest paid athlete that year. But Monday, his former comrade, the “Russian Hammer,” filed a lawsuit in Dublin’s High Court. According to Lobov, he is anticipated to assert that a contract provided him with 5% of the money McGregor made from the sale. McGregor allegedly made Lobov an offer of £850,000, which he declined.

“My client is a retired MMA fighter with a master’s degree from DCU in Finance and Capital Markets,” Lobov’s attorney Dermot McNamara stated. “To enforce our agreement with Mr. McGregor about the Proper No. We filed legal action in the High Court for twelve whiskey brands on his behalf. The idea to introduce an Irish whiskey brand connected to Mr. McGregor was first developed and co-founded by my client. We won’t add further commentary because the court is currently hearing these matters,” he added.

In August, Lobov said he developed the whiskey company concept while attending college. “Few people are aware, but this was my idea,” he admitted to TalkSport. I was the one who thought of making whiskey for Conor. The combatant stated that Icelandic businessman Hafór Björnsson had initially approached McGregor about creating a vodka company. Due to his master’s in finance, the Irishman then turned to Lobov. The Russian claimed to have studied the Irish whiskey industry in college and presented McGregor with the idea after identifying a market niche.

He stated: “Before you even look farther, I told him, “here’s what I know about Irish whiskey.” He heard about my college presentation from me. I informed him about Irish whiskey’s hegemony and other relevant information. I left when he said, “You go off and see what deal you can put together.” After visiting many distilleries and getting in touch with a renowned beverage distributor like Classic Drinks, Lobov signed an agreement for McGregor.
