Updated Points Table
Delhi Capitals climbs to the top of IPL 2020 table

Match Summary

DC wins by 44 runs

CSK manage just 131/7 in 20 overs in response to Delhi Capitals’ 175/3.

CSK suffers their consecutive as Delhi Capitals win by 44 runs.

A wicket on the last ball for Rabada. Jadeja plays the square straight straight to Mishra at backward point. Second consecutive win for DC in two matches. Second defeat for CSK.

Fine catch by Pant diving in front to dismiss his predecessor Dhoni. It was a slower short delivery from Rabada. Dhoni went for the pull shot, went early into it and edged the ball to the keeper.

CSK need 49 runs to win from 6 balls

CSK needed 55 from last two overs and all they get in this 19th over is six runs that also with two wide deliveries. CSK-127/5 after 19 overs

CSK need 55 off 2 overs

A very good over from Rabada. The equation is now 55 off 12 balls with Dhoni and Jadeja in the crease, surely this has to be too much for even this dynamic pair.

Faf du Plessis gone for 48 as Rabada strikes. Smart bowling from Rabada. Faf was backing away so Rabada kept is short and wide. Faf reached for it and edged it to the keeper Pant.

Hetmyer drops again

It’s Hetmyer again who puts down the catch. Faf was looking to slog one on leg but the ball took the outside half of the bat and flew over cover as Hetmyer came running but failed to judge the catch completely

FOUR, dot, dot, FOUR! MS Dhoni has put the pressure back on young Avesh Khan but CSK’s required rate is 20 runs per over. So even if Avesh goes the distance in the next two, it becomes just par. CSK-111/4 after 17 overs

The pressure was building and CSK pay the price as Kedhar Jadhav goes after scoring 26 off 21 balls. Wicket number 2 for Anrich Nortje as he traps the batsman LBW but now we see the main man, MS Dhoni make his way to the middle. CSK 101/4 after 16 overs

Nortje traps Kedhar Jadhav lbw

That was dead in front of the wicket. Jadhav was trying to play the short-arm pull against the length delivery from Nortje but once he missed there was no confusion on whether he was out or not.

CSK-93/5 after 15 overs

11 from the over as Rabada returns to attack. So another good over for CSK, although they need to score at a much faster rate. Two boundaries in this one. Faf got a four with a pull shot to midwicket and Jadhav added another with some brilliant deft touch as he guided a length delivery to third man fence. CSK need 81 from last 5 overs

A productive over for CSK, 13 runs from it but it’s still below-par as their required rate is touching 15. But Kedar Jadhav hit two boundaries in this Avesh Khan, maybe a sign of things to come for CSK. CSK need 92 off 36 balls

End of 13 overs; Strategic Timeout

CSK-71/3 after 13 overs; need more 105 runs from 42 balls

Faf du Plessis dropped; end of 12 overs

Another one has been put down. Du Plessis knew that he has hit it straight to Hetmyer at deep cover but the West Indian batsman puts it down. CSK need 116 runs in last 8 overs.

CSK-53/3 after 11 overs

Six singles, six runs from the over. An over of Mishra’s variations. Googly, flatter one, leg spin, almost everything was on display. The required rate is 13.67. CSK need 123 from 54 balls

Milestone for Faf du Plessis

End of 10 overs

Axar continues. Another wicket falls and it’s a run out. CSK would be so disappointed with that dismissal. Faf squirted that quicker delivery from Axar to square leg, he wasn’t looking for the single but Gaikwad was eager, and came running down the track, only to be sent back but fell short fo his crease. Kedar Jadhav is the new man. Axar finishes with figures of 4-0-18-1.

Ruturaj Gaikwad run out for 5; CSK 3 down

Ruturaj Gaikwad was half-way down the track but du Plessis didn’t move much from his position. It was a horrible mix-up and there was no way that the youngster could back into his crease. Gaikwad is out for 5. FOW-45/3

End of 9 overs; 1st Strategic Timeout

Mishra continues. Just three from the over. Couple of half-chances in the over, if you can say so. The slog sweep by Faf fell in the no man’s land at midwicket and Gaikwad’s sweep shot fell just ahead of Nortje at square leg. CSK-44/2 after 9 overs

Only 4 runs, Axar Patel is as accurate as ever. He is not giving an inch of room to the CSK pair of du Plessis and Gaikwad. Axar Patel has given only 15 runs and picked up the important wicket of Watson in his 3 overs. CSK 40/2 after 8 overs

Amit Mishra, the evergreen leg-spinner starts brilliantly, gives away only 3 runs in his first over. The required rate is rising for the men in yellow. CSK 37/2 after 7 overs

End of Powerplay; CSK-34/2

DC dominate the Powerplay phase. Final ball of the powerplay and Nortje too gets his name registered on the wicket book. He sends Vijay packing on 10. It was a simple back of a length delivery just outside off and Vijay fails to time it properly as the ball flies straight to Rabada at mid-on.

Murali Vijay gone for 10

Vijay was always looking out of sorts. The pressure was building on the opener and he had to go for the big shot. The execution however was not right.

A highly productive over for DC. Only four from Axar’s over but more importantly the dangerous Watson is gone. Faf du Plessis is the new batsman. CSK-27/1 after 5 overs

Is Shane Watson Axar Patel’s bunny?

Axar Patel gets the breakthrough

DC get the big wicket. There was just too much pressure to score runs. There was a fielder at deep midwicket and yet Watson went for the shot, the ball was quicker than expected and not short enough as he gets caught in the deep. CSK are batting on 23/1 after 4.2 overs.

Shane Watson hits first six of CSK innings

Shane Watson will definitely target Avesh Khan. He got a boundary in the first ball and now smacks it over mid on for a huge six. 12 runs off the over. CSK-22/0 after 4 overs

Terrific first over by Anrich Nortje! He got one to nip back in after hitting the seam had Watson cut into half. He could have had the wicket of Watson on another delivery but Shaw failed to hold on to the sitter at square leg. Just one from the over after the Australian steered the last delivery to third man. CSK-10/0 after 3 overs

Prithvi Shaw drops a sitter from Shane Watson; the CSK opener gets a reprieve on 7.  Shaw at square-leg, he didn’t need to move an inch but it got to him quicker than he anticipated it.

FOUR to end the over but it’s still a pretty good one from Axar Patel, 7 runs from it. Murali Vijay made room and went over mid on to collect CSK’s first boundary. CSK- 9/0 after 2 overs

An excellent first over from Rabada as Vijay struggles with the pace. CSK-2/0 after 1 over

We are back with CSK’s chase

Murali Vijay to take strike, Rabada to open bowling for DC.

Innings Break

Stay tuned as we will be back with the CSK chase soon.

End of 20 overs

Stoinis hits back to back boundaries as Delhi Capitals set 176-run target for Chennai Super Kings.

Brief Scores: Shaw 64, Pant 37*, Dhawan 35 Chawla 2/33, Curran 1/27

What an over by Curran in death; Only 4 runs from it

Two dot balls from Curran to start the over. You can’t allow such things in T20 cricket but Iyer is still to find the top gear. He finally gets a single on third ball with a slap shot down the ground. A single and double after it and then Iyer gets out. He desperately wanted a big shot, went with all his power for a pull but only edged the slower ball to Dhoni who dived to his right for a top catch.

Sam Curran removes Shreyas Iyer for 26

Dhoni takes an excellent catch diving to his right to send Iyer back to the hut. The scoreboard pressure forced the DC captain to go for an ugly hook, Curran bowled a slower delivery and found the outside edge that was taken brilliantly by MSD.

150 up for DC
50-run partnership is up between Pant and Iyer

Two boundaries in the over of Josh Hazlewood. Just what DC needed, 11 runs from it but still not quite the big over that DC are looking for. DC-157/2 after 18 overs

Chahar bowls out his quota in the 17th over. Iyer and Pant looking to keep the strike rotating with singles before they unleash a final burst. It’ll be Jazlewood who they’ll be up against. Iyer bowls a loose full toss, Iyer smashes him for four on the leg side to signal what might be start of the final assault. DC-146/2 after 17 overs

Curran also returns to the attack. 10 from the over but it could very well have been just six if not for Curran’s over-excited return throw to Dhoni that was wide and went for unnecessary four byes. DC-134/2 after 16 overs

4 over throws

Rishabh Pant was back in his crease after playing a forward defence but something crossed Curran’s mind and threw hit way down the leg side to gift four runs to Pant and DC.

2nd Strategic Timeout

Deepak Chahar brought back in the 15th over as CSK go back to their spinners after 8 overs of spin. Pant times one to perfection to drive for four. DC-124/2 after 15 overs

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are in the middle for Delhi now, with CSK having applied the brakes. Chawla bowls another brilliant over. Just 3 runs and another wicket from it. He finishes with 2/33. Jadeja being bowled out in the 14th over. Pant slog sweeps. Four to fine leg to start the over. DC-113/2 after 14 overs

Good comeback by Chawla. He has now dismissed both the openers but both of them have gave away their wickets. This time Shaw shimmied down but wasn’t able to punch the flat delivery as he thought, the ball took the inside edge and rolled down to Dhoni who removed the bails. Shreyas Iyer is in the middle and DC have two new batsman. Three off the over. DC-105/2 after 13 overs

Shaw gone for 64

Second wicket for Chawla and he’s now dismissed both the openers. Shaw stepped out to play the ball early but inside-edged it as it that rolled down to Dhoni who took the bails off.

Rishabh Pant is in at 3 and is struck on the pads twice by Chawla. A successful over for CSK. 6 runs and a wicket for Chawla in the 11th over. Shaw keeps playing his shots, getting a four in Jadeja’s over to follow. DC-102/1 after 12 overs

Finally a wicket for CSK and Chawla. It was more like Dhawan gifted them a wicket.Rishabh Pant comes into bat and the first ball hits him on pads, a googly by Chawla but umpire was not interested. Six runs off the over. DC-94/1 after 11 overs

Dhawan departs for 35

Shikhar Dhawan’s attempted reverse sweep goes horribly wrong as he gets himself into a tangle and it hits him right in front. The umpire raises is finger. A relief for CSK and Piyush Chawla. Dhawan goes for 35 off 27, FOW-94/1

End of 10 overs

A blistering six from Prithvi Shaw’s bat to end the 10th over and Delhi Capitals are 88 for no loss at the halfway mark. Shaw and Dhawan have now really started the step on the gas. CSK are in desperate search of a wicket.

50 for Prithvi Shaw

Half-century comes up for Shaw in just 35 balls. He has set up the foundation for DC.

11 runs including two boundaries off Piyush Chawl’s second over. He has already leaked 25 runs in his two overs. This is turning out to be a problem for CSK and Dhoni. DC are 73/0 after 9 overs

Strategic time out

There seems to be some issue with Prithvi Shaw’s eyes, well with the kind of shots he has played today, there is no reason to believe that. But we have a brief stoppage as the physios run out and the umpires rightly have called for the strategic time out. DC 71/0 after 8.4 overs.

50 comes up for DC

Another productive over for DC – 13 runs from it. Both the CSK spinners have started off on the wrong not again. Problems for CSK as Dhawan and Shaw look well set.

DC-62/0 after 8 overs

Shikhar Dhawan hits first six of the match!

Right out of the middle of the bat. Shikhar Dhawan hits his first boundary of the match and it’s a huge six off Ravindra Jadeja over mid wicket. The DC openers are now getting a move on.

Time for Piyush Chawla’s pin as the Powerplay ends. Shaw pulls him with power. With the field spread out now, the fielders in the deep cut off the shots. Chahar puts in an untidy effort in the field to give Shaw one four on the off side. Shaw cuts for four off the last ball. 13 runs off the over. Shaw has moved rapidly to 38 even as Dhawan is still in single digits. DC-49/0 after 7 overs

End of Powerplay!

Chahar back to bowl the 6th over, in danger of having his new ball duties usurped by Hazlewood and Curran, both of whom have conceded less than him. Dhawan attacks Chahar.  DC-36/0 after 6 overs

A half-chance in the over for Hazlewood as Shaw miscued his pull shot but he had enough in the shot to get it over mid on. Dhawan meanwhile is struggling to free his hands here. Three from the over. DC-30/0 after 5 overs

Curran comes back to bowl the 4th. Shaw flicks him for four to square leg to start the 4th. Shaw goes over the top off the fourth ball, goes over mid off’s head for another four. DC-27/0 after 4 overs

Immediate bowling change for CSK. Dhoni generally prefers to have Chahar bowl a lot at start but Josh Hazlewood is replacing him now. And a good start for the pacer, just four from it. Dhawan was kept silent for first two balls before he collected a single with a flick on leg. Shaw did strike a powerful square cut but Jadeja dived excellently to save a certain four. DC-15/0 after 3 overs

Sam Curran bowls the 2nd over. Shaw does not have much luck against him. Just a leg bye for him. Dhawan is off the mark with a single. Replays show Chahar got an outside edge off Shaw in the first over but CSK didn’t appeal. A rare miss for Dhoni behind the stumps. DC-11/0 after 2 overs

Prithvi Shaw looks to get going from the word go. Deepak Chahar bowls a few outswingers, inviting Shaw to slash hard, and the batsman obliges. Consecutive fours with that shot off the third and fourth balls. DC-9/0 after 1 over

Here we go!

Prithvi Shaw on strike, Deepak Chahar to bowl the first over.
