BWF World meet live on Star Sports 1 & HD, Hotstar, BWF YouTube

Star Sport 1, Star Sports 1 HD and Hotstar will bring the BWF World Championship live to millions of badminton fan in India. The live action from Glasgow, Scotland, starts at 3.30 pm (IST).

Ashwini Ponappa and Sumeeth Reddy will be the first Indians on court. Their mixed doubles match against Sawan Serasinghe and Setyana Mapasa is scheduled for (3.30 pm). In other action on Day One, S Kidambi (6.10 pm), Sameer Verma (8.30 pm) in men’s singles; Manu Attri and Sumeet Reddy (8.45 pm) in men’s doubles; Tanvi Lad (8.30 pm) and Rituparna Das (9.50 pm) in women’s singles; Sanajana Santosh and Arathi Sara Sunil (8.30 pm) in women’s doubles; Satwiksairaj and Rankireddy along with K Maneesha (6.10 pm) and Prajakta Sawant-Yongendran Krishnan pair (6.30 pm) in mixed doubles will be the Indian players in action.

India’s best two women’s singles players, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu have been given first round byes. Saina with a silver medal to her credit has been the best Indian performer at the World Championsips so far.

Srikanth, and Olympic medallists Saina and PV Sindhu are India’s best medal prospects for the Glasgow World Championships, slated from August 21 to 27. The mixed doubles team of Sikki Reddy and Pranav Jerry Chopra too stand a good chance.

Ajay Jayaram, B Sai Praneeth, doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, Arjun MR/Shlok Ramchandran and Meghana Jakkampudi/Poorvisha S Ram are the other India shuttlers in frey.

The BWF World Championships – featuring men’s and women’s singles and doubles as well as mixed doubles – is among the most prestigious events on the BWF annual calendar. It, however, does not take place during the Olympics year.
