Andre Russell was playing a game of the Bangladesh T20 Premier League when the incident happened, during a game between Khulna Tigers against Minister Group Dhaka. In the 15th over of the game, Russell played a delivery of Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera and pushed the ball to the off-side where it was well fielded.

Seeking an opportunity to steal a quick single, Russell ran. On the other hand the fielder at short third man, Mahedi Hasna caught the ball and threw it to the striker’s end. Though the ball hit the stumps, Russell’s batting partner Mohammad Mahmudullah remained safe as he had safely crossed the line.
The bizarre incident was yet to occur. Thinking that the run had been taken Russell slowed his running and started jogging to reach the other end of the crease. As the tides would turn, the ball from the throw hit the stumps at the striker’s end and then upon deflection sped towards the stump at the nonstriker’s end and knocked the bails off the wicket.
With the ball having knocked the bails, Russell was well off the line and thus was declared as out. This unique run-out thus becomes one of the most strange and bizarre dismissals in the history of the sport.

A confounded and bewildered Russell could only put a smile on his face before he departed the field. This strange dismissal attracted quite attention in social media and among former players.

“Well well well. This is very unlucky ….can’t believe that Russell was run out at the nonstrikers end.” said former Australian skipper Lisa Sthalekar.
