Asia Cup 2023: The future of Asia Cup 2023 is hanging in the balance. After reports emerged that BCCI has rejected Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid model, a fresh report has claimed that now Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has entered the race to host Asia Cup 2023 later this year. According to Cricbuzz, an SLC official confirmed that the Island nation is ready to host the 2023 Asia Cup if the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) grants them the hosting rights. “The SLC is prepared to host the Asia Cup at short notice. The decision now is up to the ACC. Colombo or nothing. We will go with the BCCI,” an SLC official was quoted as saying.
SLC’s new proposal is a huge blow for Pakistan, who was prepared to host the tournament in a hybrid model. Reports further claimed that all the ACC members barring Najam Sethi were present at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The BCCI reportedly denied the latest hybrid model and said, it’s either Colombo or nothing.
The Asia Cup 2023 is likely to take place from 1st September to 17th September.
What is PCB’s Hybrid Model?
In the proposed Hybrid-model, PCB suggested keeping India’s matches in UAE while holding a few matches in Pakistan, however, the Indian board didn’t accept it.
Meanwhile, the latest reports have claimed that ICC chairman Greg Barclay and its CEO Geoff Allardice will travel to Pakistan to decide on the venues for the 2023 World Cup, the schedule for which will be announced after the World Test Championship 2023 Final.
