Meanwhile, as reported by InsideSport earlier, KL Rahul has been named the vice-captain for the Test series against South Africa. While Rohit Sharma was originally named vice-captain of the Test series to assist Virat Kohli, KL Rahul has been elevated to the position instead of going back to Ajinkya Rahane.

During the explosive team selection meeting, Ajinkya Rahane was removed from Test vice-captaincy due to his poor form. The Test vice-captaincy was handed over to Rohit Sharma just but the newly-appointed vice-captain was ruled out of the Test series due to a hamstring injury. Priyank Panchal was named as a replacement.

“The All-India Senior selection committee has named KL Rahul as vice-captain for the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. KL Rahul replaces Rohit Sharma as vice-captain, who was ruled out of the Test series owing to a hamstring injury,” BCCI said in a statement.
