Star Sports continues to be the sports genre television viewership market leaders in India, thanks to the LIVE broadcast of Indian cricket team’s tour of New Zealand. But there is a considerable decline in the gross impressions as action shifts from blitzkrieg T20 Internationals in New Zealand to the ODI series against hosts Kiwis.

The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) sports genre television ratings for week 5 (February 1 to 5) have the 5th T20 International between New Zealand and India LIVE broadcast on Star Sports 1 Hindi in the No. 1 position as the most-watched show for the week. The first ODI on the same channel features in the No. 2 position, but with almost 50% decline in the impressions. Elsewhere in the top five most watched sports shows’ table, it is the 5th T20I – LIVE post match and mid innings review shows, and LIVE broadcast on DD Sports.

There appears no threat to Star Sports leadership in the coming weeks as the FTP will be loaded with a lots of  LIVE cricket action from India’s tour of New Zealand, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and then the mother of all sports ratings battles – the Indian Premier League. However, the fear of further decline in eyeballs looms large as India has failed to deliver in the ODI series and the Test match action in New Zealand will start a bit too early for the Indian audience.
