BAN vs SL: Top 5 players from Sri Lanka side to watch out for- Sri Lankan cricket selectors have axed the old guard and brought in new faces to the ODI set-up along with some of the experienced campaigners with a firm message to all that there will not be room for anyone to go by names and past laurels. The new-look squad’s first assignment will be a three-match series against Bangladesh on May 23, 25 and 28 away.

Kusal Mendis

Sri Lanka have already started reaping some dividends from young Kusal Mendis. Kusal is a naturally aggressive batsman, Mendis has a pleasing range of strokes and the maturity to go with it. He was a shining light in an otherwise damp Sri Lankan performance in the 2017 edition of the Champions Trophy. Mendis has an average above 30 in ODIs and has scored 2167 runs in 76 games.

Isuru Udana

Isuru Udana is probably one of the best bowling all-rounders that the country has produced. He has proved his worth in the shortest format of the game but needs to do better in ODI cricket. In 18 one day internationals he has 16 wickets and 190 runs under his belt.

Kusal Perera

Kusal Janith Perera has been named as the new captain replacing Dimuth Karunaratne. All eyes will be on Kusal in this ODI series. The wicket-keeper batsman has played 101 ODIs in which he scored 2825 runs at an average of 30.71. Kusal has smashed five ODI hundreds and 15 fifties.

Akila Dananjaya

Akila Dananjaya made his ODI debut way back in 2012. With almost, 10 years of experience in international cricket Dananjaya has picked 51 wickets in 36 games. He has been in and out of the Sri Lankan squad. With this Bangladesh series, the off-spinner would want to make a positive impact.

Lakshan Sandakan

Not just Sri Lanka Cricket but the entire cricketing world wants Lakshan Sandakan to perform at the highest stage as what he brings to the table is one of the rarest things in cricket. Lakshan is a chainaman bowler. In 27 ODIs he has picked 21 wickets with an economy just above 6. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the Bangladesh series.
