BAN beat SL: Mehidy Hasan shines as Bangladesh win first ODI by 33 runs- Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan picked four-wicket haul as hosts registered 33 runs victory over Sri Lanka in the first ODI here at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium on Sunday. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga scored counter-attacking but in the end, his knock went in vain.
Chasing a target of 258 Sri Lanka could not get a great start as Mehidy took two wickets in quick succession. The visitors were reduced to 40 for 2 within 8 overs. After that Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis stitched together a partnership but again Bangladesh strike back by taking four quick wickets in next few overs. Shakib Al Hasan took the wicket of Mendis while Mehidy removed Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva. Soon after that Mohammad Saifuddin sent back Dasun Shanaka on 14.

Bangladesh were smelling victory as Sri Lanka were 102/6. But in came Wanindu Hasaranga, who played absolutely magnificent innings of 74 runs in 60 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes. However, he got out on a crucial stage of the match and in the end, visitors fell short by 33 runs.
For Bangladesh, Hasan picked four wickets while Mustafizur Rahman took three. Mohammad Saifuddin grabbed two important wickets and Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with one.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah scored much-needed fifties to help their side reach 257/6 in the first innings of the 1st ODI at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium on Sunday. Mushfiqur Rahim smashed 84 of 87 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six, while Mahmudullah smashed 54 runs in 76 balls.
Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal scored a fifty to help his side get out of the trouble after losing the first two wickets at quick succession. Bangladesh opening batsman Liton Das was sent back to the dugout by Sri Lanka pacer Dushmantha Chameera while Shakib Al Hasan was dismissed by spinner Danushka Gunathilaka.
For visitors, Dhananjaya de Silva picked two wickets in two balls to dismiss Iqbal and Mithun in the 23rd over of the innings. He picked three wickets in his spell while Gunathilaka, Sandakan, and Chameera took one wicket each.
